The term "Ninja" in Japan has long been associated with utmost excellence and an unwavering spirit of perseverance. It is a word that resonates with extraordinary levels of skill and seemingly superhuman feats, captivating the imagination of many.

Sensei Devin Fernandez embodies the very essence of the Ninja, transcending any limitations imposed by his diagnosis of retinitis pigmentosa—a degenerative eye disease leading to blindness. Faced with a life-changing decision, he refused to let this condition define him, choosing instead to embrace it as an opportunity for growth and learning. Drawing upon his extensive martial arts background, Sensei Fernandez made a resolute commitment to share his knowledge with his community and the world. It comes as no surprise that he is widely acclaimed as the "Blind Ninja."

For more than twenty-three years, Sensei Devin Fernandez has wholeheartedly devoted himself to the practice of Martial Arts, specifically Ninpo Ninjutsu. Throughout this transformative journey, he has gained a profound understanding of the pivotal role that an active lifestyle plays in fostering physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. Alongside this, he embodies a profound sense of duty and an unwavering belief in the importance of giving back to the community.

In addition to serving as the program director for Third Eye Insight, Sensei Devin consistently advocates for the visually impaired, maintaining positions on various boards such as the State Rehabilitation Committee (SRC) for ACCES VR, Suffolk County Disability Advisory Board, the Town of Islip Disability Advisory Board, the Adaptive Martial Arts Association, and the FEMA Disability Advisory Board.

Firmly believing that losing sight should not equate to a loss of mobility, health, or independence, Sensei Devin draws inspiration from navigating a world predominantly designed for sighted individuals. Through his nonprofit organization, and his continued service, he inspires others by sharing his unwavering "Can Do" spirit and guiding those who are willing to step outside their comfort zone on the path toward an active and healthy lifestyle.

Kim Fernandez the co-founder and managing director of Third Eye Insight, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing fitness instruction and opportunities for the blind and visually impaired.

Outside of her remarkable professional accomplishments, veteran of the consumer-packaged goods industry with 30+ years of expertise. She has a proven track record of successfully growing brands in multiple sectors and channels, including Grocery, Frozen, and HABA, both in the Natural and Conventional markets as well as the Pharmaceutical industry. Kim has been instrumental in launching successful brands such as White Wave Silk Soymilk, Good Belly and Beyond Meat. 

Kim holds a Bachelor of Science degree from California State University at Northridge.

When she's not hard at work, Kim finds solace near the beach, disconnecting from the phone and unwinding to the harmonious tunes of jazz music. She also has a deep passion for studying spiritual principles and enjoys activities such as meditating, hiking, biking, and spending quality time with her loved ones.

Roxanne Fernandez serves as the Director of Marketing at Third Eye Insight. She has over 20 years of university program management and marketing experience. For over 10 years, Roxanne worked at Hofstra University where she was responsible for overseeing the management of the Legal Studies Program at Continuing Education. At Hofstra, Roxanne proposed the branding, positioning, and distance learning opportunities available with an on line delivery system for the Legal Nurse Consultant Program. Roxanne was responsible for the design concept of advertising materials for the Legal Studies Program as well as, assisting in the development of design concepts for marketing pieces for Continuing Education programs.

Roxanne holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Organizational Leadership and Public Policy from Hofstra University. She is currently the History Department's Graduate Program Coordinator for Stony Brook University at Stony Brook, New York.

Dojo Professor Peter Lugo is an outstanding Martial Artist, who has been studying and training in the martial arts since the age of 7. In 1987, he joined the New York State Police where he worked as a uniform trooper for four years before being inducted into a highly decorated, covert narcotics unit where he was selected to train and complete joint counter narcotics swat team training. Professor Lugo was then selected to join the FBI's joint terrorism task force as a deputized federal agent.

Since 1995, Professor Lugo has been studying and training at the Survival Center located in Spring Valley, New York under the direction of Hanshi Moti Horenstein. After 20 years of service to state and country, Professor Lugo retired from the NYSP and the FBI's JTTF and is Head Instructor and Owner of Moti Horenstein's Mixed Martial Arts, located in West Nyack, New York. His life is dedicated to giving back to the martial arts and his students, as he continues to learn from the best, his instructor and mentor, Hanshi Moti.

Sally Braman began her journey with Third Eye Insight as a dedicated student. She quickly rose to a key role as a valued board member. Sally is an experienced educator with over 30 years of dedicated service. She currently works as an Educator at Rosa Lee Young Childhood Center, a renowned private non-profit school located in Rockville Centre, New York.

In addition to her extensive teaching background, Sally has had the opportunity to work with diverse populations through various roles. Notably, she has served as an Adaptive Ski Instructor at Maine Handicapped Skiing, and a coach at Camp Abilities in Olympia, Washington. Sally has also actively participated in Maine Accessible Adventures as a committee member and participant, further expanding her knowledge and expertise. Moreover, she plays a pivotal role as the Educational Programs Chair for the Foundation Fighting Blindness Long Island Chapter, demonstrating her commitment to making a positive impact.

Sally's passions extend beyond the classroom, as she has undergone training in Outdoor Education and Project Adventure during her graduate studies at the prestigious University of New Hampshire. Her exceptional combination of experience, expertise, and dedication make her a valuable asset to the field of education.
